N.W.A. was responsible for essentially creating the Gangster Rap genre and bringing it to mainstream North American culture – much to the dismay of suburban parents everywhere. Their music was raw, fiercely aggressive, and put topics like misogony, brutal street-life, and drugs – a reality to South Central Los Angeles – directly in the ears of pimply face teens everywhere.
Now, two decades later Hollywood will tell the story with the help of two original members – Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, who will both serve as executive producers. It’s set to hit theaters on August 14th, 2015
Jason Mitchell has been cast as Eazy-E even though apparently Eazy-E’s son was also gunning for the role. Corey Hawkins (Iron Man 3) will play Dr. Dre. O’Shea Jackson Jr. will be playing his father, Ice Cube. No word yet on who will play N.W.A.’s three other principal members, DJ Yella, MC Ren, and Arabian Prince.
