Earlier this year, Osheaga announced that this year’s festival would be cancelled because of COVID-19. Originally, the festival planned to return from July 30th to August 1st with headliners Cardi B, Foo Fighters, and Post Malone.

This means that this year’s announcement is quite the pleasant surprise. Especially since the 2020 edition of Osheaga was also cancelled due to the pandemic.

Cardin’s performance will definitely be a standout, considering she hails from Montreal herself. Earlier this year she shared her explosive debut album Phoenix. That album made the 2021 Polaris Music Long List.

Opening with the R&B-influenced sounds on the album’s title track, Cardin sets the tone for her album. She weaves in and out of her chest and head voice as she sings lines like, “Take a second to show me/ How to burn and to rise/ I could swear I’m changing.” Cardin’s debut album doesn’t feel like a debut at all, it’s far more finessed and nuanced than a first album.
