Charlotte Day Wilson Uses Prism Prize Win to Make $10,000 Film Grant

The grant will be available to Canadian female & non-binary directors

Earlier this year, Charlotte Day Wilson won the Prism Prize. Rather than keeping the $15,000 prize for herself, the Toronto artist has decided to pay it forward.

Wilson announced alongside “Work” director Fantavious Fritz, have setup the Work Film Grant — a $10,000 grant that is to be awarded to a female or gender non-binary Canadian director. Music videos will be prioritized, however narrative films will also be considered. The other $5,000 of the prize money has been donated to Toronto women’s shelter Sistering.

The duo hope the grant will assist in filling the gap left by the absence of MuchFACT funding in Canada. Fritz mentioned in a statement, “Many people in the filmmaking community here have supported me and my projects in one way or another over the years and this grant is a small gesture of encouragement to someone new.”
