A beautiful and captivating mural that honours Daniel Johnston has been unveiled in Austin, Texas at the Austin Central Library.
It was unveiled on January 22nd, which would have been Johnston’s 59th birthday. Johnston passed away last year and left quite the catalogue of music. The new mural, inspired by Johnston’s legacy, reads “Hi, How Are You?,” after the project inspired by his work, which is meant to encourage people to check in on their friends’ mental health.
The project’s co-founder Tom Gimbel commented saying, “Be sincere in asking that questions and checking in on one another and making sure that we’re doing all doing all right from a mental wellness standpoint…And if we’re not, let us know that it’s okay and that there’s help available.”
