French musician Héloïse Adelaïde Letissier is back with a new two song EP as Christine and the Queens Joseph.
The surprise release marks their first new material since 2020’s La Vita Nuova. It’s made up of a cover of George Michael’s “Freedom, with Chris” and the 70s French pop classic “Comme l’oiseau.”
Christine and the Queens’ rendition of “Comme l’oiseau” is an eerie, orchestral rendition of the track. The powerful cover revolves around ambient synths, powerful harmonies, and Letissier’s captivating vocals. Their cover of George Michael, on the other hand, is a more melancholic, pared back version of the track. Letissier’s brooding vocals come layered atop barbed synths and a gospel choir. Christine and the Queens truly add their own twist to the often covered hit.

In February of 2020, Christine and the Queens surprise dropped a new EP called La vita nuova alongside a short film. The short film was shot by Colin Solal Cardo and choreographed by Ryan Heffington.
It opens with Chris on the rooftop of Paris’ historic Opéra Garnier at golden hour. As the short film progresses, it moves through dance battle scenes with mythical creatures. Eventually, Chris even sucks Caroline Polachek’s blood during their collaboration “La vita nuova.”
Later that year, in August, Christine and the Queens shared a remix EP of the collection with Polachek. The collection features three different takes on the Caroline Polachek-featuring track “La vita nuova” from Chris’ 2020 EP. With remixes from A.G. Cook, Populous, and Logic1000, each track has a completely different feel. It presents the original tune in a new light.
