CHVRCHES deliver cinematic performance of ‘Good Girls’ on ‘Fallon’

Scottish electro-pop trio took to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (August 25th) to perform “Good Girls.”

The track comes from their forthcoming album, Screen Violence out tomorrow (August 27th). CHVRCHES’ performance of “Good Girls” opens with frontwoman Lauren Mayberry singing on an old TV set. As they launch into the tune, the camera pans to show the full band performing at night beneath deep red lighting.

Mayberry sings about “the misogynistic ideals inflicted upon women,” as she bounces around to the tune. The cinematic performance captures the perfect balance of light, with the band illuminated in red as Los Angeles shines bright and blue behind them.

“The opening line (killing your idols is a chore) is something I wrote after listening to some friends arguing about the present day implications of loving certain problematic male artists,” Mayberry explained of “Good Girls” upon its release. “I was struck by the lengths that people would go to in order to excuse their heroes and how that was so juxtaposed to my own experiences in the world. Women have to constantly justify their right to exist and negotiate for their own space. We’re told that Bad Things don’t happen to Good Girls. That if you curate yourself to fit the ideal – keep yourself small and safe and acceptable – you will be alright, and it’s just not fucking true.”

Screen Violence features the previously released “He Said She Said” and their Robert Smith collaboration “How Not To Drown.”
