CHVRCHES share new cover of Echo & The Bunnymen’s ‘The Killing Moon’

CHVRCHES have released a new cover of Echo & The Bunnymen’s hit track “The Killing Moon.”

Exclusively available on Amazon Music, CHRVCHES add their own twist to the 1983 original. The Scottish electro-pop trio take on the 1984 track with ease, letting frontwoman Lauren Mayberry carry their distinctive sound. They still channel the original sounds, though, striking a perfect balance for the cover.

“We all love Echo and the Bunnymen and had wanted to cover ‘The Killing Moon’ for a long time and jumped at the chance when Amazon Music gave us the opportunity,” frontwoman Lauren Mayberry explains. “Screen Violence, the new CHVRCHES album, is very much inspired by movies and ‘Killing Moon’ feels almost synonymous with Donnie Darko which is a film we all love.”

“We’ve been waiting to do this forever, so it only feels right that ‘The Killing Moon’ be our first proper cover this year,” CHVRCHES add on Facebook.

The cover comes as part of Amazon Music’s new DV8 playlist and station. Every Friday in August, the playlist will boast a new exclusive guitar from new and well-known alternative artists.

CHVRCHES’ forthcoming album not only marks their fourth full-length, but it actually serves as a celebration of 10 years of the band.

“To me, the screen aspect was a bit more literal,” Martin Doherty adds of the record. “When we were making the record, it was like half of our lives were lived through screens. What began as a concept was not a lifeline.”
