Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-based band Close Talker ushered in a new era upon the release of their 2017 record Lens. The band downsized to three members, but Will Quiring, Matthew Kopperud, and Christopher Morien found their stride and delivered an outstanding album with their first release since 2014’s Flux.
Today, Indie88 is pleased to premiere the latest video from Close Talker. The band has unveiled a fresh visual treatment for “Reptiles,” the second track from Lens. Check it out below.
“When we were writing ‘Reptiles’ we often referred to the big string part in the pre-chorus as the ‘ABBA sound,'” the band told Indie88. “Although the band Abba was well before our time, who can honestly say to themselves that Abba hasn’t played a role in their life, be it big or small? They’re amazing! With that in mind we wanted to create a video that was more vibrant and encapsulates the spirit of the vivid era when Abba ruled the world.
“We wanted to do something simple and linear while showcasing our friend Stephanie Kuse’s vivid artwork. We’ve always been drawn to vibrant colours, but typically shy away from those aesthetics in our content and videos, so we thought we were due to produce something a little more entrancing and colourful. We wanted to showcase the song and stay away from a heavy plot line while creating something alluring and beautiful. We think Stephanie nailed it.”
