CMW, NXNE Among 45 Festivals to Pledge Gender-Equal Lineups By 2022

Keychange initiative is 'empowering women to transform the future of the music industry'

A pair of annual Toronto music events are among 45 international music festivals that have pledged to battle the gender imbalance in festival lineups, conferences, and commissions by the year 2022. Canadian Music Week and North By Northeast have both thrown support behind the PRS Foundation’s International Keychange initiative, which is “empowering women to transform the future of the music industry and encouraging industry conferences and festivals to achieve or maintain a 50:50 balance by 2022.”

The complete list of festivals backing the initiative, which also includes Canadian events MUTEK and BreakOut West, can be viewed here.

“At Canadian Music Week, we have always strived to create diverse programming that is reflective of both audience interest and the current landscape of the industry,” Canadian Music Week representative Neill Dixon said in a release. “We are proud to partner with Keychange in an effort to strive for the excellence that our community deserves.”

The intiative is set to gather politicians, artists, and music industry representatives at the Canadian High Commission in London, England, Monday to celebrate the milestone moment.
