Coachella stagehand died after 60-foot fall while setting up festival

The festival worker had been climbing scaffolding, but was not clipped into a safety harness

Although Coachella doesn’t start until next week, according to TMZ a stagehand died on Saturday morning while setting up a stage at the festival in Indio, California.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the festival worker had been climbing scaffolding in order to do some rigging when he fell approximately 60 feet to the ground. At the time, he was not clipped into a safety harness, and was immediately pronounced dead at the scene.

The Indio Police Department has revealed that the circumstances around the man’s death are currently under investigation.

The stagehand’s death marks Coachella’s third death in its two-decade-long existence, after a 21-year-old festival attendee died at a private camping area in 2008 and a 24-year-old woman died of suspected drug overdose in 2014.
