Cover Songs That Are Better Than The Original

Candice shares her favourite cover songs and the originals

CandiceBlog_150x150Candice has made her mark in radio across Canada before coming home to Indie88. She is now a co-host on “Indie Mornings with Brian, Matt and Candice.”

This week on Indie Mornings we were talking about cover songs. Should bands record covers or only play them live? Here is my list of cover songs that are better than the original:

Nirvana’s cover of “The Man Who Sold The World” makes the hair on my arms stand up.

Johnny Cash totally reinvents this Nine Inch Nails tune.

Crystal Castles totally rocked this Platinum Blonde tune.

Anyone who can sing this song well deserves a Grammy but the best version by far has to be Jeff Buckley. This version actually brings me to tears.

I have a serious crush on Hall & Oates. Yes, both of them! Looks like The Arkells have a man crush.

Honourable mention goes to Harvey Danger for this cover of “Maneater”.

I saved the best for last. I thought Tiffany’s version of “I Saw Him Standing There” was the greatest thing ever… when I was 8!
