Damon Albarn: New Gorillaz Music Coming Soon

Though they’ve hinted at a possible reunion, we haven’t heard much from those four cartoon dudes known as Gorillaz in quite a few years: their lastest album The Fall came out back in 2011.

We can’t blame them though, the band’s co-creator Damon Albarn has been insanely busy lately: he’s just reunited Blur for a string of U.S. tour dates starting after summer in support of their album The Magic Whip, and he’s been working on an Alice in Wonderland-inspired musical that was playing at the Manchester International Festival. He also just played a 5-hour set at a music festival in Denmark (he had to actually be carried off stage).

In a recent interview, Albarn said that he’s, “starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record. I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance.” That you are, Damon. That you are.

It was questionable whether we’d ever hear new music from Gorillaz due to the unsteady status of Albarn’s friendship with Jamie Hewlett, who helped create the band, but it looks like there’ll be some coming soon.

In the meantime, relive the mid-2000s with this classic Gorillaz track:
