Damon Albarn shares black-and-white live performance video for new single ‘Royal Morning Blue’

Gorillaz and Blur’s Damon Albarn has shared a black-and-white live performance video for his new single, “Royal Morning Blue.”

The track comes from Albarn’s forthcoming solo album, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows, out November 12th via Transgressive Records. The forthcoming album was written and recorded in Iceland. This song, specifically, was inspired by Albarn’s position at the piano looking out over the sea. “Royal Morning Blue” follows previously released singles “Particles” and “Polaris.” The accompanying video is a beautiful, poignant live performance clip.

“That’s why the song opens with ‘Rain turning into snow,’ because it’s that moment, that feeling,” Albarn explains. “In all the darkness that we have experienced, that was such a beautiful, positive thing.”

Damon Albarn’s forthcoming studio album was originally set to be an orchestral piece inspired by the stunning landscapes of Iceland. In 2020, however, Albarn went back to the music during lockdown and developed the tracks. Now, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows, explores “fragility, loss, emergence and rebirth,” according to a press release.
