Actor Dave Bautista has not shied away from making his feelings known about Disney since they pulled the plug on writer-director James Gunn’s involvement with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, has been very vocal about the company’s decision to fire Gunn from its now delayed Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
Now, Bautista is sounding like a person who may be done with the franchise, and Disney, altogether. In an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show over the weekend, the former WWE wrestler spoke about the Gunn situation and hinted that he could be finished working with Disney.
“It’s a bitter-sweet conversation — um, no it’s a bitter-bitter conversation because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn.”
“To be honest with you I don’t know if I want to work for Disney,” Bautista added.
Gunn was fired by Disney in July after years-old tweets resurfaced in which the writer-director was making jokes about entirely unfunny topics such as pedophilia and rape. It was alt-right internet personality Mike Cernovich who first dug up the tweets and directed Disney towards them.
Bautista took issue with Cernovich, who has “joked” about rape in the past, tweeting things like “Date rape does not exist.”
There’s no doubt the Guardians franchise would suffer from the loss of Bautista, but he appears to be a man of principle and it’s tough to knock him sticking to his guns… (pun definitely intended).
