Dave Grohl, Greg Kurstin cover Barry Manilow’s ‘Copacabana’ for ‘Hanukkah Sessions’

Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin have shared the third cover for their Hanukkah Series, a cover of Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana.”

Grohl and Kurstin have paid tribute to “mega-mensch” Manilow by channelling his loungy sound. In the “Copacabana” video, Grohl dons two different smoking jackets. One when he’s singing along to the smooth tune, and the other as he sits behind the drums. Kurstin, on the other hand, plays keys and bongos.

“Barry Pincus – not only one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th (or any) century, but a mega-mensch to boot!” Grohl and Kurstin wrote of the track. “So, like a good neighbor, you deserve a break today. So grab a bucket of chicken and let’s get stuck on…. @barrymanilow’s ‘Copacabana’!”

This year marks the duo’s second annual Hanukkah Sessions. Together, they share covers of exclusively Jewish artists for the eight days of Hanukkah. Grohl and Kurstin will continue to release covers daily until the final day of Hanukkah, December 6th.

In addition to the “Copacabana” cover, they’ve also shared a black metal rendition of Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You)” and a cover of Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.”

Prior to “Stay (I Missed You),” Grohl and Kurstin covered a bunch of tunes last year. The first installment of Hanukkah Sessions featured covers of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” Mountain’s “Mississipi Queen,” and Peaches’ “Fuck The Pain Away.” They also covered The Velvet Underground’s “Rock & Roll,” Knack’s “Frustrated,” Bob Dylan’s “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35,” and Elastica’s “Connection.”
