Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin shared a cover of Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop” for the second release in this year’s Hanukkah Sessions.
On Sunday (November 28th), they delivered a metal cover of Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You).” Then, yesterday (November 29th), they followed it up with their own rendition of “Blitzkrieg Bop.” The accompanying video sees Grohl and Kurstin ripping through their rendition in their own performance space.
“Once upon a time, two nice Jewish boys from Queens named Jeggery Hyman and Thomas Erdelyi changed the world forever with their music… as Joey and Tommy Ramone!” Grohl and Kurstin wrote on Twitter. “GABBAI GABBAI HEY! Ladies and gentlemen… It’s the @RamonesOfficial! Blitzkrieg Bop!”

On Grohl and Kurstin’s cover of “Stay (I Missed You),” they take the gentle 1994 original and turn it into a crunchy black metal anthem. Alongside the track, the pair shared a video. The clip opens with Grohl in a vintage mid-90’s flowery dress and chunky glasses. The duo haven’t come to play, roaring back with “Stay (I Missed You)” and “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
Grohl and Kurstin will continue to release covers daily until the final day of Hanukkah, December 6th. This year marks there second annual version of the series.
Prior to “Stay (I Missed You),” Grohl and Kurstin covered a bunch of tunes last year. The first installment of Hanukkah Sessions featured covers of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” Mountain’s “Mississipi Queen,” and Peaches’ “Fuck The Pain Away.” They also covered The Velvet Underground’s “Rock & Roll,” Knack’s “Frustrated,” Bob Dylan’s “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35,” and Elastica’s “Connection.”
