After we heard David Bowie had passed, his producer and long-time friend Tony Visconti shared that Bowie’s final album ,Blackstar, was meant as a parting gift to fans. Now Visconti has revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that Bowie was planning another album.
A week before his death, Bowie contacted Visconti and said he wasn’t finished. According to Visconti, Bowie had wrote and demoed five new songs in the final weeks of his life.
“And I was thrilled, and I thought, and he thought, that he’d have a few months, at least. Obviously, if he’s excited about doing his next album, he must’ve thought he had a few more months. So the end must’ve been very rapid. I’m not privy to it. I don’t know exactly, but he must’ve taken ill very quickly after that phone call.”
Visconti also dives into Bowie’s illness, recalling the day he found out about his cancer and the months following. Read the full interview over at Rolling Stone.
