Death Cab For Cutie bassist, Nick Harmer, explained why frontman Ben Gibbard stormed off stage mid-set during a stadium gig Wednesday night.
The alternative rock band were playing a show with Chvrches at the Volvo Car Stadium in Charleston South Carolina, when halfway through their hit song “Soul Meets Body”, Gibbard walked off stage, throwing aside his guitar and slamming the mic to the floor.
Harmer told Billboard, “It got spun as we left the stage mid-set. It was the last 20 seconds of the last song and all of Ben’s equipment failed at the exact kind of unrelated moment there was a giant fight in front of us,” he explained.
“We would’ve finished the song but we’re all feeling a little skittish after Orlando and things were just — we weren’t sure what was happening.”
Following the recent events in Orlando, and the death of not one, but two voice contestants, we can’t blame the band for feeling off.
The band eventually came out to perform an encore and didn’t cut any of the songs from their original set. To watch the incident, which was all caught on camera, check the player above.
