Diamond Rings is John O’Regan (aka John O), a University of Guelph grad who is now based out of Toronto. Sounds like he had fun at university: “I remember this one time some friends and I built this huge cave out of cardboard that we spray painted neon. We put it in the gallery at school and performed a karaoke version of Technotronic’s ‘Pump Up The Jam’ inside of it with nothing but our underwear and crazy makeup on. That was actually my term project one year.”
John O started his musical career with The D’Urbervilles (aka Matters), and started writing and performing as Diamond Rings when he finished his degree. His debut album “Special Affections” was released in 2010, and led to touring with Swedish star Robyn. Montreal producer Damian Taylor (who has worked with Robyn, Austra, and Bjork) helped John embrace an electronic sound on new album “Free Dimensional”, out Oct 22nd.
John has assembled a touring band that includes Graham Van Pelt (Miracle Fortress). Diamond Rings is currently supporting Stars on the road, and will do a headlining tour bringing them to Toronto’s Mod Club on November 26th. Watch for them on the Late Show with David Letterman (October 26th) and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (November 7th).
