Doug Ford pleads with public to avoid lineups for new video games

Stay home, you can download the games!

With today marking the arrival of highly anticipated new releases such as Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing, gamers have been flocking to stores to get their hands on something new to cope with the ongoing pandemic.

The premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, is warning against lining up at video game stores, and blasting the shops’ owners for continuing to operate in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis.

On Thursday, GameStop employees were reportedly told to refrain from closing stores, with the messaging that they’re an “essential retail service.”

Nearly all modern video game consoles provide the option to purchase titles online for download.

“It’s unacceptable,” Ford said in his Friday media address. “Please do not get in line. This is exactly what causes the spread. It’s frustrating when I hear stories like this. I’m frustrated with the store owner who allowed this to happen.”
