Eamon McGrath finds beauty in uncertain times on new album ‘Bells of Hope’

Toronto-based artist Eamon McGrath has shared his new album, Bells of Hope.

The record sees McGrath taking the sadness and uncertainty of our times and transforming that into something beautiful and hopeful with his music. Bells of Hope is an ambient-leaning album, influenced by artists like Talk Talk, Brian Eno, and Alice Coltrane. Throughout the record, McGrath hones in on his rock and country-laden sound, while exploring new sonic territory.

“The world can often be a pretty terrible place, but within it are these tiny shards of incalculable beauty,” McGrath explains of Bells of Hope, “and you get better at finding them the older you get.”

Bells of Hope features singles “Age of Unease,” “Sarajevo,” “Cannonball,” “April,” and “Sparkle & Bleed.”

Today’s focus track, “Age of Unease,” looks at the political, cultural, and social changes of the 21st century. Throughout the track, McGrath documents and pays homage to the individuals who have bore witness to these changes.

“Cannonball” is another standout track from Bells of Hope. The song serves as an ode to some of McGrath’s country influences, as his haunting voice takes the lead, channeling the sounds of classic Americana. With shimmering instrumentals and twangy guitars, “Cannonball” sees McGrath delivering lines like, “And I paced around the hall/ Like a grounding cannonball/ As the sound of barking dogs faded/ Distant through the walls.”

McGrath is embarking on a tour in support of the album. Check out the dates below.
