“Ears-Free” Headphones are in the Works at Sony

At SXSW, Sony revealed a new prototype for “ears-free” headphones. Concept N are headphones that sit securely on the neck and direct sound into the user’s ears. The innovative bluetooth product uses voice control and also features a tiny camera.

In a video interview a Sony-Future Lab representative, Kimberly, explains how the device works:

“The speakers are located on the side and it sends the sound and directs it up, around your head. So, people around you can still hear that you’re listening to something but they can’t recognize what you’re listening to – only you can actually directly hear it.”
