Facebook has added new adorable reaction buttons that make scrolling a lot more fun.
The website now goes beyond liking posts and has introduced “love”, “haha”, “wow”, “sad” and “angry” reactions. The buttons are animated, and appear in a bar by holding the “like” button down or hovering your mouse. Unfortunately, the much-requested “dislike” button is still unavailable.
According to Wired, Zuckerberg began to construct the buttons about a year ago. He concluded that Facebook needed more ways for users to interact with posts because not everything will be “likable” to people. Previously, users were only able to like posts and comment or use various stickers.
Wired reports Facebook got serious about making the emotions accurate, so they approached Dacher Keltner, a professor of social psychology at UC Berkeley. Keltner was a science consultant on the movie Inside Out and also helped Facebook with the creation of stickers. Keltner said that in order to capture human emotions properly Facebook would have to implement 20 to 25 different emoji’s, which was impractical. The designers wanted to stick to limited and simple options.
While Facebook continues to make updates, what do you think should be next?
