Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit are back with their first new song since 2019, “Angel.”
The track is all about a relationship on the verge of ending, as First Aid Kit song of unkind behaviour from a love interest. Throughout “Angel,” they sing lines like, “Give me love and give me compassion/ Self-forgiveness and give me some passion/ I love you even though you can’t love me.”
Directed by Mats Udd, the accompanying video sees First Aid Kit singing along to the track in front of a picturesque blue background. Those clips come interspersed with film-style shots of the sisters in a stunning field.

“It feels special to release a song after such a long hiatus,” First Aid Kit explain. “Today we’re so thrilled to finally share our new track ‘Angel’–a hopeful tune for these crazy times about accepting other people even if you don’t always see eye to eye. It’s also about being kinder to yourself. We wanted it to feel really big, but vulnerable at the same time, something you can cry and dance to as well.”
Last year, First Aid Kit released a Leonard Cohen tribute album called Who by Fire. Four months after Cohen passed away in 2016, the sibling duo hosted a two-night event honouring the folk poet at Sockholm’s Royal Dramatic Theater. Those concerts are what will make up the forthcoming 20-track album, which sees the pair joined by several Swedish musicians including Loney Dear, Jesper Lindell, Maja Francis, and an eight-piece band with a string section and a 20-person choir.
