Spoilers are coming.
It’s already been nearly six months since HBO left us all hanging at the end of the fifth season of Game of Thrones, and there are still months to go until the next season starts in April, 2016. The first tease of the next season just came out, and although there isn’t any new footage in it, we get some pretty strong hints about what to expect.
And the fact that a 40-second teaser with pretty much zero new footage already has over 3 million views in less than 24 hours, for a show that’s still months away from coming out just shows how hungry people are for the next chapter.
The only new addition to the footage is a voice over by Bran, which he can be heard saying “they have no idea what’s going to happen”, as he mocks both show-watchers and book-readers alike. For the first time ever in the show’s run, the smug readers of the book series have no idea what’s going to happen.
We were all hoping George RR Martin would have written the next installment in the book series by now, but with HBO beating him to the punch (and let’s face it, there’s no way of avoiding the show until the next book comes out) we’re all going to have to let HBO spoil everything. The major spoiler obviously being the fate of Jon Snow, whose murder at the hands of his comrades was the cliffhanger at the end of both the last season and the last book. So I guess since HBO and actor Kit Harington had previously done such a shit job of concealing Jon’s fate, they decided to just come out with the answer by having Harington as the face of all the new season 6 promos.
