Andre 3000’s best performance of the year will be in this biopic of the great guitar player Jimi Hendrix’s life in the years leading up to his world wide fame. Opens September 26th.
Ty Segall – Manipulator
The 27 year old has put out an astonishing amount of music in the last six years. All that quantity lead to this just released stunning set that takes his garage/punk psych vibe into a new realm of incredible tunes that mix classic styles in a focused set. Catch him September 21st at the Danforth Music Hall.
The show that mixes entrepreneurship with kitschy comedy enters its 9th season at a crossroads. Though it’s survived cast changes in the past, the departure of “the man we love to hate” Kevin O’leary and the steady Bruce Croxon will be a huge challenge to overcome. New Dragons, financier Michael Wekerle and restarauneur/chef Vikram Vij have large shoes to fill when the show returns October 15th.
Hey Rosetta! – Second Sight
It’s been three years since Newfoundland’s finest released their expansive sounding album Seeds and where Tim Baker and friends go now is anyone’s guess. The first single “Kintsukuroi” is a deep dark slice of addictive pop. While we won’t see them here till early next year, they join Stars for a fall US tour that concludes in Buffalo November 23rd.
Jon Stewart’s directorial debut is based on the memoir of Mazair Bahari and Aimee Malloy, Then They Came For Me. It tells the story of Bahan an Iranian Canadian journalist imprisonment in Iran due to an interview he did on The Daily Show in 2009. Opens November 7th.
