Florence Welch to write lyrics, music for forthcoming ‘The Great Gatsby’ musical

She'll work on the music with Thomas Bartlett

Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine is set to write the lyrics and co-write the music for a forthcoming musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous book, The Great Gatsby.

Welch is set to work alongside Thomas Bartlett for the music for the stage show, The Great Gatsby: A New Musical, and the pair had previously worked together on the Game of Thrones track, “Jenny of Oldstones.”

“This book has haunted me for a large part of my life,” Welch explains. “It contains some of my favourite lines in literature. Musicals were my first love, and I feel a deep connection to Fitzgerald’s broken romanticism. It is an honour to have been offered the chance to recreate this book in song.”

The Great Gatsby: A New Musical will be directed by Rebecca Frecknall, and it is set to feature a book from Pulitzer Prize-winner Martyna Majok.
