Four bars in the Church and Wellesley Village have shut down due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
On Saturday, popular drag bar Crews & Tangos released a statement on Instagram confirming that one of its performers and a patron had both tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the bar urged all patrons who visited Crews & Tangos between September 18th and September 20th to get tested. Additionally, they revealed that the bar would be closed for four to five days.
On Sunday, Woody’s & Sailor, which is located across the street from Crews & Tangos, confirmed that a staff member had tested positive for coronavirus, and their most recent shifts were on Sunday, September 20th from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 22nd from 8:00 p.m. to close.
“We have reported this to Toronto Public Health and have had preliminary instructions. Although we were told we did not have to close, we have decided not to open the bar or patio today and until further notice,” the statement read.
Also on Sunday, both O’Grady’s on Church and The Drink decided to close until further notice due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in Church-Wellesley Village.
“We have strongly encouraged all staff members to get tested for COVID-19 during the closure,” the O’Grady’s statement read. “We will be conducting a thorough cleaning during this time.”
The Drink received backlash on social media in a since-deleted post where they claimed to have no staff members test positive. In the comments, several patrons claimed to know of at least one staff member with a positive COVID-19 test. The Drink has since re-posted the announcement of their closure, but removed the line that read, “As of now, none of our staff have tested positive and we have not been ordered to close.”
