Gallery Goer Ruins Art While Attempting Selfie

Selfie-seeking woman wreaks havoc while trying to show the world she's at an art gallery.

A bunch of sculptures were apparently ruined a few weeks ago in a Los Angeles art gallery.

A woman visiting the gallery tried to take a selfie in front of one of the pieces before falling backwards and knocking over what can only be described as the flimsiest display stand ever. It created a domino effect, quickly toppling over several other pieces and reportedly racking up $200,000 worth of damage somehow.

The gallery is described as a “monumental, multiple-media, socially engaged art and documentary experience conceived by the Hong Kong-based British artist Simon Birch.” Which suggests that this might just be a publicity stunt. In which case it certainly worked, since it’s all over the internet now. Smart move, advertising is expensive.

If it’s real, you gotta wonder why they would place such allegedly valuable art on such rickety displays, with rows so close together, where people are meant to walk in and around them, and are even encouraged by the gallery to take selfies.
