Green Day have banded together to co-author a book called Last of the American Girls, which will be a full-colour piece illustrated by cartoonist Frank Caruso.
Named after the 21st Century Breakdown track “Last of the American Girls,” the book will be “an inspiring homage and handbook for the rebellious everywoman who refuses to capitulate,” according to a statement from Dey Street Books. Although not many details have been released, the book will be a celebration of “true rebel girls.”
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained to Blunt that the track was originally about his wife. “Then I started getting into more of my own beliefs – anything from a little book of conspiracies to playing vinyl records or something,” Armstrong explained of the tune. “It’s sort of about an empowering, sort of subterranean kind of lifestyle, but at the same time there’s a new era coming in with the way we all need to live.”
Last of the American Girls is set for release on October 29th, 2019 via Dey Street Books.
