Haviah Mighty wins 2019 Polaris Music Prize

Brampton MC takes the award for her album 13th Floor

Haviah Mighty was awarded the 2019 Polaris Music Prize for her uncompromising record 13th Floor. 2018 Polaris winner Jeremy Dutcher presented Haviah Mighty with the honour at the Carlu in downtown Toronto Monday night. The award comes with $50,000 in prize money.

13th Floor beat out records from the likes PUP, Jessie Reyes, Shad, FET.NAT and more. The Brampton MC is the 14th winner of the annual award. Check out some of the evening’s images below.

The Polaris Music Prize recognizes the Canadian record judged to be the best based on artistic merit. Previous winners include Dutcher, Lido Pimienta, Kaytranada, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Fucked Up, Caribou, Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and more.

All 10 finalists receive a $3,000 award.
