HBO To Release ‘Serial’ Documentary ‘The Case Against Adnan Syed’

The Case Originally Aired On Hit Podcast 'Serial'

The hit investigative journalism podcast Serial covered the story of Adnan Syed in February of 2016, a boy convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999 – years later, the story inspired HBO and Sky to produce a documentary series regarding Syed.

“The Case Against Adnan Syed” has been in production since 2015 and according to the network, examines the events that lead up to Hae Min Lee’s disappearance. Forbidden romance, cultural conflict, the aftermath of Lee’s appearance and the police investigation up until present day – as Syed awaits a retrial – are explored.

The docuseries is directed by Amy Berg and features original music by Warren Ellis and Nick Cave. It is to exclusively cover various perspectives in regarding case – from Syed, his family and defence team, as well as Hae Min Lee’s friends, teachers and family. It has been reported that there will be “groundbreaking revelations” as the case has the ability to keep or release Syed.

A premiere date has yet to be announced. However, HBO will cover U.S distribution and Sky will cover European.
