New day, new Game of Thrones cup story. After a wild coffee cup appeared in a scene of the hit HBO series, Starbucks has reportedly earned approximately $2.3 billion in free advertising from Game of Thrones.
On Sunday, the mistake went viral after fans spotted the cup during a feast at Winterfell Castle. The label on the cup is pretty unclear, but many fans assumed that it was the iconic green Starbucks label. Although it was actually from a different chain in Belfast near the series’ set, according to NME, the publicity has done pretty well for Starbucks.

According to CNBC, the coffee giants have gained approximately $2.3 billion in free advertising over the past few days, as it was mentioned in conjunction with Game of Thrones around 193,000 times across the web.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime collision of opportunity for Starbucks,” marketing expert Stacy Jones explained to CNBC. “But really, this is just the tip of the iceberg, because what isn’t being monitored or estimated is the word of mouth and social media on top of this.”
