Here’s What Toronto’s Giant New Park Could Look Like

Mayor John Tory announced yesterday that plans for massive new green space in the downtown core are in the works.

The idea: decking over the railroad tracks south of Front St. W between Blue Jays Way and Bathurst to create space for a park in a neighbourhood that is lacking greenery. The park would be the first of its kind in Toronto and would connect communities north of the tracks with the waterfront.

Currently the air space property is owned by the CN and Canadian Pacific Railway, who maintain the train tracks below the proposed space. There’s no definitive time frame for a decision would, but the idea will have to move to the Ontario Municipal Board, and get approval from Metrolinx and VIA rail before moving forward.
