Honest Ed’s Sign is Coming Down Next Week

This weekend mark’s the last chance for Torontonians to view the iconic sign at Honest Ed’s at its original Bathurst and Bloor location. The sign is set to come down on Tuesday, before heading into storage to be refurbished.

The 23,000-bulb sign will eventually be hung at Ed Mirvish Theatre near Yonge and Dundas Square. Honest Ed’s closed its doors on December 31, 2016 after nearly 70 years of operation. Ed Mirvish died in 2007 at the age of 92. His son, David, has plans for the sign in his father’s memory.

“I’m sure [my father] would be delighted to see his two great passions — Honest Ed’s, which in many ways was a theatrical setting for a grand parade of humanity, and the theatre world, which he loved — finally be joined together,” David Mirvish said in a release.

Will you head to the Annex this weekend for one last look at the iconic discount store’s sign?
