Are you ready? This one is gonna be a blast because we’re talking about how to make canna sugar.
Yup. Canna-sugar. Cannabis sugar. Weed sugar. Sugar infused with the magical, mystical properties of cannabis. I think that explains it, right?
Let’s let our inner stoner have some game time, shall we? With no delay, let’s talk about how to make the sweet much sweeter with weed sugar, baby.
Ingredients & Equipment You’ll Need To Make Cannasugar
- 3 grams of cannabis
- 1 cup of grain alcohol
- 1 cup of white sugar (around 200 grams)
- Cheesecloth
- A glass jar for storage
Directions For Infusing Sugar
Before you do anything, you must decarboxylate your cannabis. This happens instantly when you’re smoking it. When you’re munching edibles, you need to make sure that the THC is available. This happens through decarboxylation.
Decarboxylation is a process which converts THCA into THC. Because of this, keep in mind if this heating up doesn’t happen, you literally won’t get high.
All you need to do is grind up your weed and then spread it evenly on a baking sheet. Place it in the oven, and bake it for 30-45 minutes at around 220 degrees Fahrenheit. (For the old-school among us, simmering chopped buds in butter or coconut oil does the same thing.)
However, when you’re baking it, you’ll want to also make sure the top check it every 10-12 minutes to make sure the weed isn’t getting scorched.
Step 1: Grain alcohol process
Take your ground, decarboxylated cannabis and pour it into your jar. Cover with the grain alcohol and close the jar. Let it sit for around 30 minutes, shaking every 5 minutes or so.
Step 2: Strain liquids
Put the liquid with the bud in it through a cheesecloth. Keep a bowl underneath to catch the liquid. Once you’ve done this, you can discard the cannabis.
Step 3: Add sugar
Pour your sugar into the bowl with the strained liquid. Stir it all together well, and then pour into a glass baking dish.
Step 4: Bake it
Place your dish in the oven again, and bake at 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Stir the contents regularly. When the alcohol has evaporated, remove it from the oven.
Step 5: Store it
Once you’ve taken your sugar out of the oven, let it cool off. This doesn’t take very long – maybe ten minutes. From there, break up any large chunks, and then store it all in an airtight container.
Tips to keep in mind when making Canna sugar
Don’t take too much
The number one mistake people make with weed sugar is not being patient, and then double-dosing. This is also true for edibles in general. So don’t make that mistake.
With your thc infused sugar, start out taking half a teaspoon. The potency of your sugar will depend on the potency of the cannabis you used. Half a teaspoon will get you started, and you can go from there.
Proceed with caution.
Crack a window
When you’re decarboxylating your weed, and also when the sugar is in the oven, crack a window. This will prevent you feeling like a total slacker if your mom decides to stop by.
Make sure you decarboxylate
Yeah, I know we already talked about this… but don’t skip this step!
Enjoy your weed sugar! Be safe, and get baked responsibly!
