For the first time in over twenty years, legendary rap crew N.W.A will perform together. Ice Cube said that he’s bringing MC Ren, DJ Yella and (we hope) Dr. Dre back together for a show in their hometown of Los Angeles on June 27. The last member Easy E died in 1995.
The performance will be part of this year’s BET Awards. It’ll mark the first time Ice Cube shares a stage with MC Ren since 2000, and 26 years since he performed with DJ Yella.
“It’s just going to be a great night,” Ice Cube told Rolling Stone. “It’s just gonna be one of those ‘I wish I [was] there in L.A. nights.’ And we’re gonna rock that shit, no problem.”
But, will Dre perform? “You know, if you wish upon a star, you never know,” Cube mysteriously responded.
“I hope he blesses us with his presence. But if not, I’ve been rockin’ for a long time without anybody. So whoever shows up, I’m still gonna rock. Whoever don’t show up, we still gonna rock.”
Obviously, Eazy-E’s passing in 1995 means he won’t be able to perform, but Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Schoolboy Q will also perform at the awards – maybe one of them will fill in. We can dream…
