IKEA Recalling Water Dispenser Due To Suffocation Hazard for Pets

Cats and dogs heads can get stuck in dispenser

IKEA has announced a recall, effective immediately for the LURVIG water dispenser for dogs and cats. The furniture company said there is a risk that pets heads can get stuck in the dome of the water dispenser, resulting in possible suffocation.

The LURVIG water dispenser was sold in Canada from October 2017 to July 2018 with 7,767 units sold in Canada.

The recall comes after two instances that occurred globally where dogs had their heads stuck in the water dispenser, and died from suffocation. There have been no reported incidents in Canada.
IKEA says they are “deeply saddened by these events, adding “the safety and security of our products is our top priority”.

Customers can return their LURVIG water dispensers at any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase is not required.
