David Bowie – “Five Years”
Today would have been David Bowie’s 74th birthday, so to celebrate, we’re resurfacing “Five Years!” Additionally, Duran Duran shared a cover of this track today, ahead of the A Bowie Celebration: Just for One Day livestream, which takes place tonight. “My life as a teenager was all about David Bowie,” Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon explains. “Part of me still can’t believe in his death five years ago, but maybe that’s because there’s a part of me where he’s still alive and always will be.” Listen to the Duran Duran cover here, or check out the original above!
John Lennon – “Mother”
David Bowie’s previously unreleased covers of John Lennon’s “Mother” and Bob Dylan’s “Tryin’ to Get to Heaven” have also been shared for the first time in honour of what would have been Bowie’s 74th birthday. Bowie’s cover of Lennon’s 1970 track was originally recorded in 1998 with producer Tony Visconti, and it was set to feature on a Lennon tribute album that was never released. Depeche Mode – “Never Let Me Down Again”
While gearing up for the release of his five-track instrumental EP The Third Chimpanzee, which is set for release on January 29th, Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore has released a new solo track called “Howler.” In honour of the occasion, we’re looking back on Depeche Mode’s “Never Let Me Down Again.” Take a listen to “Never Let Me Down” above or check out Gore’s “Howler” here.
Beastie Boys – “No Sleep Till Brooklyn”
A whole slew of artists have made their own Yeti cooler chests that are set to be auctioned off, with proceeds going toward the Crew Nation relief fund, including Beastie Boys. The auction features coolers designed by artists like Beastie Boys, Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Wilco, Fleet Foxes, and more. Talking Heads – “Burning Down The House”
The Recording Academy announced its 2021 Special Merit Awards. A whole slew of renowned acts are set to be recognized with Lifetime Achievement Awards, including Talking Heads, Selena, Salt-N-Pepa, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, late jazz musician Lionel Hampton, and opera singer Marilyn Horne. To celebrate, we’ve resurfaced Talking Head’s “Burning Down The House,” which you can listen to above!
