Ex By Divine Right & Junior Blue artist Dylan “The Dill” Hudecki, released his full-length record today, Greetings From.
Greetings From is a long time coming; a distillation of a 52 songs The Dill recorded over a 16 year period. In 2016, the artist released those songs one at a time, every week for a year. The 52-song collection was released physically in the form of a deck of playing cards, with each song represented by an original piece of art by a cast of 45 Canadian artists.
Of those 52, Hudecki narrowed down the collection into a “Best Of” sort of album, now called Greetings From.
“It was hard to pick only 12 songs of 52 for ‘Greetings From’,” said Hudecki. “I polled about 10 people and my record label bosses and the responses I got back were surprising! Between 13 people, every single song of the 52 was on someones list somewhere. I could’ve made 3 best of’s. A folky one, an indie rock one, and a down tempo and weird one. I simply made those 3 into 1. So you’ll hear a cross section of the whole project. Yet it’s still quite cohesive and deep. I love it. Everyone I’ve played it for seem to enjoy it and the faux vintage Hawaiian motif works quite well with the themes of enjoy life, and endless summer and making every minute count. All the way down to the transparent blue vinyl. Very fitting that it’s coming out in the summer.
“It takes a small village to raise an album, it takes a city to raise a 52 song album. I have great friends. Plain and simple. Over 50 musicians helped me make the album. Over 130 people helped make the project all told. Wayne Petti told me ‘that’s more names than a Hollywood movie!'”
Collaborators on Greetings From include Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning, Born Ruffians’ Luke Lalonde, Sarah Harmer, Arkells’ Max Kerman, Holy Fuck/Dusted’s Brian Borcherdt, Brave Shores’ Jay McCarrol and more.
