SAN FERMIN – “JACKRABBIT” & “EMILY”
Baroque-pop act San Fermin from Brooklyn stopped by the NXNE Hub to serenade us with their powerful tracks “Jackrabbit” and “Emily”. Both tracks came off their recently released LP Jackrabbit, which has been high regarded by fans – the likes of Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists and the National. Having an eight-piece touring band allows them to produce a hard hitting authoritative sound. Their orchestral backed pop-ballads left us hypnotized and wanting more.
San Fermin had a NXNE showcase at Adelaide Hall on Thursday for their NXNE showcase.
NO JOY – “BURIAL IN TWOS” & “HOLLYWOOD TEETH”
Montreal shoegazers No Joy graced the NXNE Hub and played us a couple tracks off their brand new LP More Faithful. Originally a duo, fronted by leading ladies Jasamine White-Gluz and Laura Lloyd, they recently took on additional members to fill out both their live and recorded sound. No Joy does an excellent job juxtaposing dizzy fuzz-ridden guitars with celestial vocals, bringing out a truly mesmerizing sound.
No Joy have a three night NXNE stint at the Silver Dollar Room, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
FAST ROMANTICS – “JULIA” & “FUNERAL SONG”
Calgary born Fast Romantics have kept themselves real busy over the winter. Shortly after taking home the Pop Group of the Year at the XM Sirius Indies for their 2013 LP Afterlight Blues, they started working with Gus Van Go (Hollerado, The Stills) to produce their next one. The ever-so-catchy indie-pop band brought their killer harmonies and dance melodies with them for a live performance at the NXNE Hub to play us “Julia” and “Funeral Song”.
You can check out Fast Romantics at their NXNE showcase tomorrow night at the Horseshoe.
GROUNDERS – “FOOL’S BANQUET” & “PULL IT OVER ME”
Yesterday we had the pleasure of kicking off the Indie 88 NXNE Sessions with Grounders, a new-psychedelic / atmospheric Indie Rock band from Toronto. Grounders are fresh off of dropping their eponymous LP back in may, which was produced by David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Chikita Violenta). The band combines sounds of dreamy synth pop with low-fi psychedelic elements, which gives them an irresistible refined sound. The band stopped by the NXNE Hub to play “Fool’s Banquet” and “Pull It Over Me” from their latest album, and left us in a trance. You can catch Grounders at their NXNE showcase tonight at Sneaky Dee’s.
Check back tomorrow for a new live session!
