Session Schedule

GROUNDERS

Wed June 17 @ 1pm

Location: 170 Spadina Ave

The self-titled GROUNDERS LP is a collection of dense and intricate pop music under the gauzy veil of krautrock and psychedelia. From wistful sun-baked dreams to glistening waves of pleasure, GROUNDERS rediscovered their love for classic pop music. They listened to pop staples like David Bowie and Devo, and revisited old favourites like Velvet Underground, Neu, and The Zombies. Months of tracking, tinkering and layering later, GROUNDERS enlisted the incomparable David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Holy Fuck) to give each song the bombastic, fried analog treatment he’s become known for.

SAN FERMIN

Thu June 18 @ 12pm

Location: 170 Spadina Ave

San Fermin is a band whose sound can change drastically from song to song – listening to one of their records for the first time is exciting because you don’t know what you’ll get next. Ellis Ludwig-Leone wrote the record himself, then recruited a large band, which is necessary considering how ambitious the tracks are. If you’re into Haim, Lucius or Saint Motel, this band should do the trick.

FAST ROMANTICS

Thu June 18 @ 1:30pm

Location: 170 Spadina Ave

For Fast Romantics, it has been four years of adventuring their way through the backcountry of Canadian indie-rock, often attempting to straddle that hazy intersection at the corner of rock n’ roll and pop. Now, with their second full-length album Afterlife Blues, it sounds as though they have — quite confidently — found their way home.
After constant touring in support of their new album Afterlife Blues and winning ‘Pop Group of the Year’ at the 2014 Sirius XM Indies, the band’s frontman continues to insist that their third album is really just a starting gun for the reinvention of his band.

NO JOY

Fri June 19 @ 1pm

Location: 170 Spadina Ave

After playing their first gig opening for Best Coast back in 2009, Bethany Cosentino tweeted “Two hot blonde girls just shredding away. Sooooo amazing”. This Montreal-based duo appropriately borrows similar west-coast vibes from Best Coast, mixed in with slightly more punk influence. Now releasing their sophomore album 5 years later the band has evolved from their early shoegaze 2-piece, to a full 4-piece band with a lot more experience on their side. Fans of Best Coast and Alvvays will undoubtedly enjoy.
