Toronto’s Eamon McGrath has returned with a new single called “April,” premiering now on Indie88.
The introspective new track sees McGrath reflecting on his emotions amidst the melancholic transformation of winter to spring, which was heightened, as he began writing the track during the pandemic. Opening with an ambient instrumental before a driven beat and keys kick in, “April” sees McGrath’s sweet vocal lines taking the lead as it explodes into an emotional chorus with McGrath singing, “Oh why is April always blue?.”
“Last year, when ‘April’ was written and recorded, I was coming off of an incredibly productive and positive time: I had just released ‘Guts,’ I had played over 200 shows in support of it, and the psychedelic rush of 2019 was coming to a dramatic close,” McGrath explains. “Coupled with the outbreak of COVID-19 and the end of the winter, it was a very emotional time for me, and I channelled that into looking very deeply inward and trying to examine my emotional reaction to the changing seasons and channel it into a song.”
