Australian R&B artist EJ Worland is gearing up for the release of his debut EP on April 9th, and today he’s previewed the collection with a video for his new single, “Hard To Find,” premiering now on Indie88.
“‘Hard to Find’ is a song I wrote about taking a new direction and learning how to deal with the crippling voices of self doubt, how to navigate a new path and commit to change,” Worland explains. “I wasted too many years of my life listening to the voices of self doubt. I wanted to write a song I could listen back to, which would remind me to be excited about this new endeavour rather than worry about whether it was going to work out or not.”
The new track is a catchy R&B anthem, with groovy instrumentals and wailing vocals, as Worland delivers lines like, “And I keep coming up for air/ Or just for some kind of change/ Well it’s up to myself/ There’s no one left to blame.” The accompanying Kane Lehanneur-directed clip comes packed with flashy, partially animated clips of Worland singing along to the track beneath captivating colourful graphics.

“The opening lines of the song talk about a confused place I was in before I landed in LA where I started to find a community of friends and musicians, only to have the pandemic make it impossible to perform and ultimately stay. Back in Aus I linked with my good friend, director Kane Lehanneur of ‘The Sauce,’ who helped me create the motion,” Worland continues. “Kane was keen and eager to try something a little bit different. He wanted to mess around with animation, bright colours and lots of movement to keep up with the energy of the song.”
