Indie88 Premiere: Emily Rockarts shares colourful video for new single ‘Stay’

Rockarts' debut album is set for release on April 24

Montreal-based singer-songwriter Emily Rockarts has released a colourful video for her new single, “Stay.”

“‘Stay’ is about the moments after a breakup,” Rockarts explains to Indie88. “You wish that it could have worked out, maybe you still think it can, but it’s obvious that it won’t. It’s about being annoyed, perplexed, exasperated and gutted by a relationship that you knew wasn’t right from the beginning but you still hoped would work out in the end.”

“Stay” revolves around a gritty guitar line and driven drums as Rockarts’ silky vocals take the lead. The accompanying brittpaperscissors (Brittany Farhat)-directed video sees Rockarts taking part in a party for one, with colourful shots of her sitting alone at home, cutting fruit, playing with balloons, and dancing beneath confetti.

“We wanted to play with the idea of throwing a party,” brittpaperscissors (Brittany Farhat) explains. “But the kind of party where you don’t really tell anyone it’s happening and nobody really comes but that’s totally okay because there is more punch for yourself and you don’t have to entertain anyone except for yourself and that’s the whole point.”

Rockarts’ debut album Little Flower is set for release on April 24th, 2020.
