Indie88 Premiere: Garage punk outfit The Mary Veils sing of despair in the city on new single ‘Rowhome’

The Mary Veils have shared their new single “Rowhome,” premiering now on Indie88.

The new single serves as the first track from their forthcoming EP, Over the Rowhome, out November 4th via PNKSLM Recordings. The anthemic tune comes packed with gritty guitars and frantic percussion that’s sure to get you thrashing around. Throughout the single, we get some classic punk vocals and captivating wails.

“The song ‘Rowhome’ came together around about the same time as ‘Home Video’ in our first few practices as a full band and was one of the first songs we tracked with Jessie Gimbel in his basement studio,” The Mary Veils explain. “We liked the raw energy of the track and Jeff Zeigler (Nothing, War on Drugs, Kurt Vile) and Cory Hanson of Wand really kept it that way when mixing it. The song itself in a way is partially about where we come from. The term Rowhome and Rowhouse is unique to our area. A story of despair not uncommon to cities and blue collar areas. We wanted you to feel that dread.”

The upcoming EP is inspired by classic punk from acts like New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders. “We’re just throwing everything we think is cool into the pot and trying to cook up something with a similar flavour,” drummer Evan Wall says of the collection.

Somewhere Over The Rowhome Tracklist:

01 – “Rowhome”
02 – “Home Video”
03 – “The Lark”
04 – “No Drama”

Today’s release follows previously released single “Home Video.” Upon its release, The Mary Veils explained of the track:

“‘Home Video’ was the first song we ever played together at the very first practice we had in this line up. It just came to us in the way you hope all songs come to you and immediately felt complete. It was the nod we needed to know that this could work. It made sense to us that this song should be the first release.”
