Indie88 Premiere: Hawksley Workman unveils video for new track ‘Around Here’

Two-time JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hawksley Workman has released a video for his new track “Around Here.”

“The song is a meditation on belonging and the dark, slippery moments when love challenges,” Workman explains to Indie88. “When it slips from a feeling, into work, into a mission statement of mutual truths. The track is a call to action to rise to the challenge of long-term, committed love: the sometimes uphill and banal kind. This call is to reaffirm, strengthen, and celebrate the long term commitment, the stumbles, the doubts, and to glorify humility.”

The silky, anthemic track revolves around a cyclical, warping instrumental and Workman’s smooth, processed vocals as he sing lines like, “And I know we’re both tired of making mistakes/ And falling has become our middle name.” The accompanying video is delightfully quirky as Workman makes his way through the streets of Toronto in front of a fish eye lens, dancing, singing along, and wearing an “Applause” sign.
