Toronto-based indie-pop artist Michael Paradise drew comparisons to chillwave standouts Washed Out and Tennis with his debut single “MEANT 2 BE.” Paradise has followed up his debut with another dose of warm synths and funky vibes via “lost control.”
“‘lost control’ came from a recent realization that the old cliche – ‘Things fall apart’ – is painfully true,” Paradise told Indie88. “It draws a parallel between losing the physical, the stable, the tangible, to losing the psychological and the ethereal. I have a knack for misplacing trivial, but sometimes valuable, things in my life and it has always drove me a little mad. In the recent months, I’ve lost a lot more – things that aren’t trivial. ‘lost control’ is about just that – the lack of control we have over a life that feels like we are in control of, and the madness that ensues.”

“Collaborating with Goldchain again has been really great,” Paradise added. “We bring our own taste and aesthetic to the project, always landing somewhere in between, which I think helps to keep the sound unique. He brings the poppy/hip-hop side of things, while my base is more indie, Canadiana. When people ask what genre of music I make, I’m honestly unsure how to respond, and I’m kind of happy that’s the case.”
