Canadian singer-songwriter Mike McKenna Jr. has shared a new track called “The Town.”
The new track revolves around a warm, Americana instrumental line with a modern twist. McKenna Jr.’s powerful lyricism paints the picture of a coal mining town that struggles under economic turmoil, forcing its residents to move away in search of new work. McKenna Jr.’s wistful vocal lines have a nostalgic, longing feel to them as he delivers lines like, “Maybe you’ll find me someday/ Where the fog meets the glacier bay/ Where I always have a familiar place to stay/ In the town I was born.”
“The town became smaller and quieter,” McKenna Jr. explains. “When I also moved away, I felt compelled to write something commenting on the changing identity of ‘the Bay,’ my nostalgia for my upbringing there, and the hopeful future.”
