Mississauga indie-alt band We Wander have shared a video for their new single, “Rock and a Hard Place.”
“Rock and a Hard Place” is a captivating indie rock track with folk influences, revolving around energetic instrumentals and silky vocal lines. The new Shawn Lovering-directed video follows a non-linear narrative and with shots of a girl who is addicted to social media, interspersed with clips of the band performing to the tune. Ultimately, the video looks at themes of social media and smartphone addiction.
“When we first had the idea to make a music video for this song, we came to Shawn Lovering (our director) who created this idea around addictions to smartphones in teens, and how it plays a factor in their everyday lives, as well as their mental health,” We Wander explain. “There’s a lyric in this song that says ‘where do I go, when this house is not a home’ and that’s the whole idea behind this video. This girl has had a rough home life and tries to find an escape through social media, only for it to make things worse for her.”

“We really wanted this video to be an eye opener, and spread awareness about the addiction to smartphones and the power it can have over us,” We Wander add.
